I met Bougainville commerce minister (smoked some brus with him) and was on radio suggesting how Bougainville can gain more business (reselling insurance for political risk on reinsurance mkt a big part of it - as banks wont finance businesses otherwise).
I laughed initially when I saw the valuation BOC put on the mining equipment. especially after seeing photos of the infrastructure remaining. IMO, it would actually cost money to clean up the site which would be a mining provision as a liability, not a mining asset.
You're spot on too about the investments. But when I looked, it seemed the gains from the investments pretty much covered current operational costs. We'll see if this is the same once the FYs come out.
Most of the people who told me I had no idea when I was saying sell at +60c are long gone. They thought they could understand PNG by googling while sipping their soy latte in the inner suburbs. From all my international experience, no where requires you to be on the ground more than PNG. Trying to get a good picture from a distance is nigh impossible.
