Agreed you do need to get your teeth into it if one is going to have the conviction we need when investing. There also needs to be a degree of uncertainty to create a disconnect in valuation terms - so being able to review the ‘pedigree’ of a company from a historical model is important.

As I’m also not from a financial background I found investopaedia to be an excellent resource for understanding some of the metrics like fcf.

Although there are 10000001 good value books out there, this document by James Carlisle was a helpful read for me.

It’s not behind a paywall so I don’t there’s any issue with providing the link - it’s also a good advertisement for InvestSMART at any rate.
