They have been drilling this section for a while now, and given they have had very little by way of drilling problems to date (had to cure some losses, and a few minor sticky sections) I would imagine the risk of losing the well is low. As for drilling mud invading the borehole, that is inevitable and actually designed into the mud-chemistry so a filter cake is built up on the borehole wall (ie it's a non-issue). If they drill into water (dont forget - this is exploration after all), it will not change anything about how they acquire data in the hydrocarbon bearing zones above.
