Shareholders often mistakenly consider themselves "owners". Whilst they are, legally, when it isn't a dividend retirement fund type investor they are in reality, just a short term (in the ratio of life of a company) guests. Hence, the true long term decisions aren't made with investors in mind, except where such decisions will affect the long-term performance of the company; E.G. when they know good news is coming it's better to have the price bounce off a strong base rather than a low one. Beyond that, shareholders really are just another tool for the company to use, and the smaller the shareholder, the more dispensible the tool.
Taken in that perpsective, then BP have done a fantastic job for the company. They achieved the same capital for about 4% cost to the company that same capital achieved for a cost of 40% only 6 months ago. The trick for us dispensibles, is to read (guess) and predict how we will be used, or to to suck it up and ride it out as long termers; opportunity cost vs FOMO.
Good luck with ur choices everyone.
