True VW Toyota BMW have all stated their intention to use solid state batteries.

However, as if Sep 21 they were no where near implementation.

No stabe Electrolyte has been made to date. Moreover they will cost 8x Li-ion. That is a fullstop to EVs (apart from Halo Cars) that are already at a significant premium to ICE vehicles.

"Carmakers and technology companies have produced solid-state li-ion battery cells one at a time in a lab, but have been unable so far to scale that up to a mass production.

It is hard to design a solid electrolyte that is stable, chemically inert and still a good conductor of ions between the electrodes. They are expensive to fabricate and are prone to cracking because of the brittleness of the electrolytes when they expand and contract during use.
Currently, a solid-state cell costs about eight times more to make than a liquid li-ion battery, experts say."

A good article as it lins to other supportivel articles with more depth.

Bill Gates has money to chuck at it so it will get done, however I do not see realistically priced EVs on that technology for many years to come. By then solid form factor solar pannels will boost cheaper the use of Li-ion powered EVs.


EVs are only a part of the picture, Commercial & Domestic appliances application will be immense IMHO.
