Agree Brick. Solid state is still a lot further off than many who spruik it would have you believe. Even when it does find its way into a car, it's most likely going to be in very high end models, and even that isn't likely til the end of the decade. It always comes back to a balance of tech that gives you a nice value proposition i.e., can be produced at scale ( huge scale ) cheaply and also gives you reasonable performance.
The big winner in battery chemistries right now is lithium ion phosphate LFP. LFP batteries can be fully charged and fully run down again and again and again, with no battery degradation, which actually makes the supposed extended ranges of other chemistries like NCA quite negligible. All of the big factories being built right now are going this way except in the case of Korea who may have made a bit of a blunder sticking with NCA, but they have invested so heavily in it now it's going to be hard for them to pivot from it. These factories are only starting to come on line, they will be making LFP with a bit of silicon doping for extra range for the next decade at a minimum. Also the danger for a solid state battery company like QuantumScape and Solid power is actually a company like ours that continues to improve on the incumbent chemistry with easy to do silicon doping of the anode that can keep pushing the limit of what’s possible as far as range with LFP and still very cheap to make.
