We all (well, most of us) have performance reviews. If I don't produce anything useful period after period I'd be in trouble.
Of course they'd say: 'But we've just been unlucky!' But hey, I can NOT find oil. We all can NOT find oil. The reason that they are paid so handsomely is that they DO find oil.
And there hardly seem to be any consequences for non-performance.
