I will assume reducing the ore from 8 mm to 4 mm increases the surface area exposed to processing chemicals or physical separation methods. My guess is that this will enhance the efficiency of the leaching agents and hence we get getter recoveries.
However, I would imagine the finer grind will also increase energy consumption and costs. Just thinking aloud, but I daresay added costs are minimal.
