Because if the ASX was a normal exchange with reasonable governance, risk and compliance, shorters would have far more disclosure of their positions, more transparency would result and ur trading (long or short) would be better due to the better disclosure that u could research and trade upon.
ASX is not really a mature market in terms of governance, a wild west outfit with insufficient regulations, poor procedures and a lack of confidence permeates.
Only Hilarious Clinton would support a dodgy capitalist market like the ASX, the ASX has market failure and imperfect information re disclosures written all over it. NYSE and LSE leave it for dead.
Even the NZX is better in terms of disclosure, note the NHF take over of OnePath NZ.
