Average spot price for NSW yesterday was $886 and will be similar today, driven by the following (as per WattClarity: https://wattclarity.com.au/articles/2024/05/08may-am-nsw-volatility/):
(a) Too early for autumn solar;
(b) Not much wind;
(c) Vales Point 5 tripping offline at ~01:30 this morning (still offline as we write)
(d) Eraring has 2 units offline
Futures have been recovering, mainly due to some recent Wind lulls.
Renewables have a role to play but they will be part of the mix, but what AGL has done and is doing is orchestrating energy across the NEM (rooftop solar, wind, offtakes, batteries, generation etc).
