Yes the whole issue of open access to scientific research has been in the news a lot recently. For example, not so long ago Elsevier took legal action against the Sci-Hub website for providing access to what Elsevier regarded as its corporate property. Elsevier's publishing model is arguably one of the most profitable (and some would say predatory) in the world, and it will be interesting to see what will be the long term impact of sites such as Sci-Hub, which for most scientists in developing (and developed!) nations is the first port of call in looking up papers now.
