    "Axe"?
    A geological hammer. Standard piece of field geologist's equipment. Often used in photos to indicate scale - it is typically a little over one foot long (maybe 325 mm).
    This one looks well used. Leather-bound handle like this one is nice if the budget will stretch to it, but blue rubber is more standard.
