Can you provide some peer reviewed or market released figures of recoveries that tesla is currently getting for its Batteries? Elon is truly a visionary but he is also prone to Hyperbole and self promotion. Sometimes you have to question if it is to manipulate markets such as the Lithium from Clay process he said they had which would mean they didn't need to rely on hardrock....... at the same time as actively pursuing and signing many other hard rock offtakes.
I have asked the LFP battery Question before and Yes the NMT process can be used to recycle LFP although of course the margins will not be as good due to the content that goes into the batteries themselves. (yes these margins are still to be released to market from the refining hub).
As far as LFP is taking over market share, Yes the market share is increasing, But which Markets is the Key here and so far that is predominantly the lower end markets in china and Asia where the Budget EV's are being produced and the regulation Hurdles are far lower.
NMT is predominantly targeting Europe first and foremost which is a higher wealth market which produce Higher end Cars and the reliance on LFP is likely to be less than Asia. I'm not saying there wont be LFP in Europe but try telling a Porche or Mercedes owner they only have 200km range or their Sports car now weighs 3 tonne because we decided to go with LFP. That's half the problem with LFP, it's energy density is far lower. So you either need lots more increasing weight and size or range is restricted.
The other thing that Chris has mentioned many times in Videos is the amount of recycling needed is going to be Huge and will be shared out through many companies. So with NMT having to my Knowledge industry leading recovery rates and process, why not target the High end market where the most margin is?
