Not everyone does it, but occasionally you'll see something like a a "1 option per 2 shares purchased" in a prospectus.
Sell the shares after listing to get your initial investment back, stick the oppies in the draw til a bit closer to exercise date. If it stags, that's a bonus - little bit of profit to put towards the next one.
