I work at a site where the Miya platform is running in the background in beta as it builds streams from existing data sources. It's nice (or I wouldn't have bought the shares) but I'm afraid
@hotwolf that hospital bureaucracy in Australia is appalling and IT departments here still have this absurd perpetuating belief that they can build their own in-house CIS for less money and produce a better product than external developers - the results are bad and lead to in-house solutions that cover the gaps resulting in multiple databases through out organisations which mutate into semi-critical systems. And yes, I'm afraid each hospital does see itself as special and local owners of datasets and databases are invested in keeping their status quo and are suspicious of sharing data.
The Miya developers have a good model in that they can come in with beta software and demonstrate how they incorporate existing data streams and much like the existing databases they can become mission critical before charging however its a slow, painful and risky way to operate.
