Bevter, I believe that the issue being referred to is brilling, where if proper precautions are not taken bearings and shafts can rock back and forth in the same position during transportation resulting in exccessive wear in a specific location in the bearing, and subsequent early, or reduced life, failure.
I imagine that corrugations would be quite commonplace out there in the Tanami so adequate pre-cautions ought to have been taken.
