The hedge was structured on the not uncommon (unequal) pro rata monthly basis spread (unequally) over its term, intended to leave much available for sale at spot each month, ie any monthly production above the relevant (unequal) pro rata monthly amount.
Better for ALK than providing a royalty or having an all gold (until the hedge quantum is met) contract. It did okay.
