If I sold KME. Then went to the casino and put the proceeds of the sale on number 16 of the roulette wheel. Then the number 16 came up. Is that astute? Or is it just gambling?
That would most certainly be gambling.
On the flip side, investing in a company clearly undervalued by the market to a degree which it could be considered more undervalued than the company for which you are selling to make room for it, is not gambling.
When the company that you have bought then re-rates >100% whilst still being considered deeply undervalued, whereas the one you sold 'only' re-rates 50% (and possibly remains undervalued), then it could be considered from my view, astute.
