Australia has a free trade deal with China — since 2015. Australia has many FTAs. I don’t know how exactly they can benefit SFG.

SFG paid Andrew Rob as an advisor, which resulted in Japanese having a direct stake. I don’t know if he landed any other deals.

I think transport is a bit of a hurdle. For example, a lot of work has been done in Kununurra to grow bananas cheaper than in Queensland, but once transport costs are added it’s difficult to compete.

Prawns need to be processed, refrigerated and arrive as fresh as possible to earn a premium. I stayed with a family in Japan who served alive prawns and proceeded to eat them raw — I couldn’t do it and kindly refused.

We need to get past covid and open up tourism into Kununurra. They need to land bigger airplanes and have direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney. Imho this will happen in time.
