Substantial quantities of rare earth go into making the electric motor magnets and magnets in wind turbine motors. Makes a big difference to longevity and efficiency.
I think the Chinese have the largest available by a mile but LYC is the biggest outside China though there is a large one in America that went into an arrangement to trade its way out of administration/receivership. Very important for magnets.
