Regardless, there is no chance this acq bid is getting up in its current form.. we will be trading well above 11.5 cents when this goes to a vote in June.

To be fair to Pfizer, if I was them I would have done exactly the same thing... throw a low ball offer in and see if it gets a bite. Their mantra would be: Why overpay if you don't have to?!

On a positive note the takeover offer is very public. I think the BoD were very aware of this and this was part of their rationale to strategically endorse it.
I expect this takeover offer will ignite a bidding war with other potential suitors. Pfizer would definitely be willing to pay much more - no one ever offers near their best and final upfront!

Additionally, the upfront funding for the COVID-19 R&D program gives us solid additional capital runway. The fact that Pfizer, a global pharma giant is jumping onboard, demonstrates their confidence in the enormous commercial opportunity the COVID-19 product offers.
