too many people all wanting in at the same time, fighting over too few shares for sale. That can take a stock up 10 fold in one session. Just depends on how few shares there were in the first place, and how many want to buy the shares.
Clearly, in ATH's case, the ratio of [ people wanting in: actual shares available for sale ] was quite extreme.
