These guys are value investors. This is an opportunistic investment. For them low probability of loss of capital and high returns (9.75% interest only for 3 years plus warrants to buy shares/ADRs.
they see large upside (either the stem cells will be approved in next 3 years or the ip can be sold to someone else).
For msb it keeps the wolves from the door for 3 more years.
