Happens quite often
If a supplier sees promise in a company in it's infancy then often its negotiated. Win, Win. A relatively cash poor start up, being NSZ, being able to save it's dollars while having a supplier join the share registry who will have an aligned interest in seeing the company grow
Can result in cheaper product also
