They sure do need stable prices.
If non energy companies have to pay to much and supply is low, the entire deck of cards can fall over and this includes energy companies.
It is a juggling act. All countries and regions want to develop and invest in energy production locally, this includes the US, Obama has stated he wants to invest in more US production, Europe will be the same.
