They just didn't chase. Somehow they thought they'd get the runs in singles. They got to about 0/30 after 5 overs, then whenever they lost a wicket, the new man would come in and spend a couple of overs nudging the ball around. They hit almost no boundaries because they didn't try to hit boundaries.
