There's actually not a lot of effort involved, and the cost of the application is very low: a couple of hundred dollars at most. Less if you do it online. I don't think you can infer that the company has knowledge of good results from the trial. The cost of a provisional patent application is low enough that the company could (and should) lodge it in case they get good results.

But looking at other cannabinoid studies around the world, it's reasonable to expect that the trials with Dolce will replicate the positive effects without the negative effects resulting from the presence of THC in those other studies.
