Obviously not great for the workers at Edikan but a couple of other knock on elements that may help Perseus to control costs.
The Obuasi mine is only ~40km from Edikan. From what I can tell it is likely to be placed on care & maintenance in 2015 which in turn explains the 4,000 redundancies in the article.
I'd imagine this could have a significant deflationary effect on labour rates for Perseus. It may also mean there is less need for load shedding in the area.
