Ann: PTN acquires substantial interest in Emmerson, page-47

i am new to PTN ..Can someone help me explain why PTN management not focusing on mining their own gold resources with available funds ? They are more focused on taking small interest in other companies. So far I know ..they have interest in alto..emmerson..matsa..bright resources..Geopacific....total value of those interests plus available funds are almost equal to current market cap..that means market sees almost zero value of their own assets . Are they gold investment company or mining company?
