I think producing H2 onsite is a good move, as opposed to shipping it. If they centralised the manufactture, how do you ship it with a diesel truck or a H2 truck, or build pipes everywhere. There is alot of overhead to producing H2 vs charing a battery, this provides for another avenue of growth small H2 Generators for households/factories, you use your Solar Panels excess power to run the H2 Generator to generate H2 from water and then power your house/factory or fill your vehicle with, you become more self sufficient, espacially outback stations, farms, remote communities. So the new investments are in the life-cycle of the vehicles they produce and the maintenance of them to keep them operational. This will mean customers will lease the vehicles upfront payments, with monthly and kilometre usage. It starts to produce a revenue stream upfront with the skill set for Hydrogen vehicles that they can start partnering with other manufacturers to service their vehicles.
This will be capital intensive to start up, with reoccuring revenue keeping the vehicles going. Improves skills of technicians or mechanics wanting to diversify into Hydrogen/Electric powered vehicles.
As it is new, there is reluctance to follow, until it is a proven strategy. Think about Petrol vs Diesel vs Electric. Always been about what you get out of it now it is "How does it impact the environment". Strategies and opinions change with what are presented with. Now we need the government to support the initative.
