The new logo certainly grows on you and is simple and memorable. Looks modern and upmarket whereas the current zip logo can potentially give off a cheap vibe. Especially when you're using it in public you don't want to feel associated with any negative images. It does actually seem like the new logo could be used worldwide.
We are used to seeing the old zip logo around Australia and while it is a good design and I appreciate the colors, internationally there are many brands using similar design/colors which makes it easier to get lost in the crowd.
