The question in my mind is whether QAN is expecting a premium to fly people direct to NY and London or whether they will offer it at a discount (or at similar rates to existing 1 stop flights). I imagine the flight would save Qantas on landing fees and refueling, ground services etc. Although it could cost extra if they're required to have an extra pilot or 2 to cope with the 20 hours of flying. Personally, i'd consider the flight direct if it came at a discount. If there is any premium attached, I'd happily pay for a stop over.

I wonder whether Qantas are putting 'safety first' with their pilots or whether they are putting woke politics at the front of their hiring practices as they attempt to find gay people, women and anyone with any sort of ethnicity (this I have first hand knowledge of, with friends currently in the recruitment process at Qantas). Let's just say if you have pink hair or some skin colour, your odds are extremely high.
