My partner works in one of the Big 4 accounting firms. She said no to one of her prospective clients because after reviewing their standards and compliance procedures, she didn't want her company's brand name and reputation associated with that level of dodgyness. Unsurprisingly, 2 of the other big 4 were happy to turn a blind eye and pick up that work even due to the conflict of interest.
Moral of the story? Audit without integrity is essentially meaningless and if big 4 companies are lacking in it, well you get the point.
