It was either sell the land or hit up shareholders with another cap raise and further dilute shareholders investments.
I dare say a few Qantas execs prefer the land sale option as it leads to a (relatively) high share price compared to cap raise with shareholders being diluted. I assume most QAN execs hold performance rights, options and/or stock.
