What's being retired got to do with paying capital gains? I assume you mean your tax free allowance covers the taxable gain you will make? Or do you hold it in your SMSF?
If you can't use the the franking credits then yes it's probably not worth waiting until August & it could all still fall over.
Unless of course you want to take the 50% scrip?
