QBE don't need this money, its just a token SPP to give retail shareholders the chance to pick them up at the same price as the $2b institutional placement.
After buying back the $900m Tier 1 hybrid at 70% of face value, QBE's gearing has now falled to 27%. From a S&P ratings perspective that's low.
...and that's why we are going up.
