A higher operating margin is bad news, QBE's emerging market division will loose money if the ratio is 110%. However, this equates to a small percentage of income overall. Of more importance is that "improvement in the combined operating ratio in Australia & New Zealand as well as North America while Europe continues to perform well" - maybe just maybe QBE are going to hit their target investment return which will be considered IMO hugely positive, mainly because QBE has consistently missed targets and not notified investors of this early...
Seems as though Neal is doing a reasonable job, and most importantly delivering in line with expectation/forecast... A perceived surety in single digit earnings growth will have many insto's rejigging calculations on fair value....
