Perhaps now we'll see some serious moves from the Bowen Basin coal miners in avoiding punitive Safeguard Mechanism (SM) penalties, with agreements to hook up to the MGP Northern Hub. It seems a no brainer as pre-drainage is essential for mine safety. They'll want to avoid an explosion incident which can shut down an operation for years, and cause significant brand damage.
For maybe a similar amount as a first year fine, the miner can agree to a pipeline tie-in point, and hey presto, DW and Co will take over in avoiding the accumulating penalties. Hope this is explained better tomorrow.

There has been issues with self-reported baseline emissions in the SM, which may affect initial penalties (or lack thereof).
However, the various new satellites being launched tracking methane emissions and making the date publicly available in near real time should accelerate calls to government to tighten up the system quick smart, given our commitment to the Global Methane Pledge.

The design of the Future Gas Strategy should also work in our favour, as QPME or whatever we call ourselves soon, is harvesting fugitive emissions.
