Yes - the Osborne discovery - persistence, but CSR/Billiton and then Placer had 30-40m of mesozoic cover concealing all the outcrop, so its not surprising that it took quite a few drill holes.
From what I can see of Mt Birnie, Nil Desperandum and Duchess and other CNB targets, they have almost no cover rocks at all (except a bit of soil) so CBN do have outcrop and historic workings as well as modern geochemistry and geophysics to help them pick drill targets.
