the energy spectrum of these CNO quantum dots/islands can be 'translated' into colours....maybe....said energy spectrum comprises of the single electron energies plus electrostatic energy apparently. Their approach is dictated by the carbon nano onion characteristics. And even here we can't draw a line because the CNOs themselves can be re-engineered to have more workable characteristics like the one you suggest and some. At some point they will have to decide on the right approach and trade offs.
