This has been discussed at length on here with many theories. One theory is they couldn’t get the level of control they wanted and even wanted to take Talga private.
We will likely never know but we do know that shortly after the divestment Peter Smedgiv acquired the Kabanga Nickel Project in Tanzania - https://www.africaintelligence.com/mining-sector_exploration-production/2021/02/05/smedvig-and-von-christierson-bet-on-barrick-and-glencore-s-former-project-kabanga-nickel,109640696-ar1
