Critical consideration and bear views are very valuable - if they are fact based and put in good faith. If on the other hand you have someone who is just throwing out random assertions, most of them incorrect, and when challenged just moving onto another point or disappearing, then you have a troll. Engaging with a troll adds nothing of value and instead clogs up threads with endless posts of unreliable information mixed with abuse. Blocking the troll helps but you still end up with lots of replies. Most importantly engaging with the troll delivers what they want, i.e. attention and angry reactions.
Perhaps we could all consider just ignoring the troll for a while?
