Correct, Ukraine is a major Silicon manganese producer.
Its a terrible situation unfolding in Ukraine, one would think this will no doubt have implications on the supply of ferro alloys in Europe.
With Russia invading the Ukraine all sorts of rumors are flying. The latest is the Privat has declared force majeure on all manganese alloy shipments out of the Ukraine. Most of the production is silicomanganese. While not a supplier to the US market, Privat supplies the European market.
The Ukrainian government has closed all the ports on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azou. The government’s military ordered shippers to suspend all commercial operations immediately. Also Russia has suspended all movement of commercial vessels in the Azov Sea.
There will definitely be an increase in Mn alloy prices as Ukraine is a major supplier. Whether this feeds into Mn ore prices remains to be seen. Some Mn ore destined to go to the Ukraine will find its way to Asian ports
