I am in that group of engineering and environmental science students (ex-student) you speak of and while I agree the majority of us do want 'sustainable outcomes', you are wrong in assuming 'many' of us vote greens. That's a total guess on your part and it's wrong.
The greens policies are quite frankly ridiculous in most cases because they swing too far in the other direction and don't represent sustainability at all if they were ever actually implemented. If we had a political party in Aust that pushed for evinormentally sound policies but took a balanced approach to economic and other issues (and didn't waste its time with the other popularist garbage) I believe 'many' of us would vote for them.
