Li-S Energy is looking for a Battery Production Development Engineer to play a key role in our team. This is a rare opportunity to join a $250m, ASX listed, well-funded Australian technology company and play a key role in the commercialisation of world-leading battery technology.

    Sponsorship to live in Australia

We're looking for the best people to join our team so are searching around the world and sponsoring people to come join us in Australia.

    About us

Li-S Energy is pioneering new lightweight battery technologies for EVs, drones and electric aircraft.

Climate change and EV adoption are driving massive growth in the battery industry, and industry is seeking new technologies to increase energy density, safety and cost effectiveness of future batteries.

Li-S Energy has developed new lithium sulfur and lithium metal cell technology using advanced nanomaterials that will power the world’s future by delivering batteries with more than twice the energy density of today’s lithium ion cells. And — with our lithium sulfur cells containing no heavy metals — we offer a cleaner and greener alternative to the nickel, cobalt and manganese used in current lithium-ion cells.

Having proven our technology at laboratory scale, we are now optimising cell composition, building a 2MWh pilot production plant in Geelong, Victoria, and investing in one of the largest dry rooms in Australia.

At the same time, we are scaling up our team across R&D and production engineering to drive forward our commercialisation program.

    The opportunity

The preferred candidate will be responsible for scaling up blue sky next generation lithium sulfur battery cell research to pilot level production scale.

The role, based at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University, will report to the Senior Battery Production Development Engineer and will be responsible for:

    • assisting with the development, assembly, commissioning and operation of new pilot scale equipment
    • developing the pilot line production capability for next generation Li-S cell technology
    • creating and writing safe work procedures (SWPs)
    • safe handling of materials
    • operating systems in accordance with company OH&S policies and SOPs
    • reviewing and monitoring key production equipment for performance and output quality
    • recommending enhancements to equipment to improve operation and quality of output
    • assisting with the implementation of lean manufacturing methodology for the pilot production system
    • assisting with Industry 4.0 production implementation
    • working as a key part of a small and growing team, including research scientists, engineers and production specialists
    • analysing production results and feeding results back to the wider Li-S Energy team.

    The successful candidate will have:

    • engineering and production environment experience
    • engineering degree or materials science/electrochemistry preferred but not essential
    • ability to operate complex equipment in a pilot or development environment
    • hands on practical experience
    • ability to identify equipment issues and maintain equipment to an agreed quality standard.

Li-S Energy Pty Ltd plans to make Lithium Sulphur Batteries a Reality. Lithium Sulphur battery technology and its advantages over Lithium-ion have been known for over two decades, however, to this point, there have been a number of technical hurdles that have stood in the way of successful commercialisation. Li-S researchers at Deakin University believe that incorporating Boron Nitride Nanotubes (BNNT’s) into the design of Lithium Sulphur batteries overcomes the remaining technical hurdles and will allow the many advantages of Lithium Sulphur battery chemistry to be realised on a commercial scale. Li-S Energy is planning to use BNNT’s to overcome three major hurdles in the commercialisation of Lithium Sulphur batteries.
