The number of Australians struggling to pay their credit card bills is small and showing few signs of growth
The Australian consumer is “still in really good shape” with few borrowers either in arrears or default.
Savings buffers built up through the pandemic have sheltered consumers, while others used their early access to superannuation to reduce credit card and personal loan debt.
The distressed customer universe is about half as big as it was before the pandemic, and is not showing any signs of re-growing.
