Not entirely true …
… of course they need to be in the money to show a profit but options are sold at a loss for many reasons, some for example to purchase heads, solidify a tax write-off, deceased estate or simply because of managed fund rules (there’s a whole HC thread full of people who had their IMUOEs sold against their will).
