Pointerras business model has proved to be more cyclic / project based rather than a sticky SAAS company. I think partnerships with hardware suppliers is a good strategy as we seem to be better at providing the technology over executing sales of our product. This will provide more SAAS like revenue as we can have more customers paying the base monthly rate. Many of the large organisations are now looking to in-house capture using vehicles and drones as you no longer need a plane or helicopter with expensive equipment and expertise. It’s also good to focus on expanding in other industries so we don’t have such booms and busts.
utilities are a great customer and once you are in the door, you generally stay there for a long time but what most people probably don’t realise is that utilities go through cycles, spending big for years and than bust periods where projects are shelved and costs are cut. Australian utilities run on a 5 year cycle which is dictated by the AER (Australian Energy regulator ).
Hopefully IO is right and the utilities are ready to get stuck into these projects so we can stay afloat while we also diversify our customer base.
