I don't think Canada has slave labour though Lux. Also, the Canadian border is not a "leaky" one and nor does it threaten the US.
Maybe Trump wants to weaken Canada so he can take it over.
It was Trump who said that prices would not go up by the way.
The Canadian and US economies are intertwined and the US imports parts to make its cars for instance. US also gets 10% of its oil from Canada and a 10% tariff on Canadian oil makes no sense at all.
Tariffs on Canadian goods is not really protecting any US companies.
