Just a question on the "Build Back Better" bill that was passed in the US Senate...
We know that Australia, having a FTA with the US, is one of the beneficiaries of this US$7500 EV tax credit deal with US automakers. Is this limited to the country of origin (e.g. Argentina, in the instance of LKE), or the country of ownership (e.g. Australia, in the instance of LKE)?
I am of the thought that country of origin is the interpretation that applies, and if I'm not mistaken, with Argentina not having a FTA with the US, LKE misses out on this benefit?
I've looked around but can't find anything at hand to clarify.
I don't think this is such a big issue either way, since lithium is going to be in red hot demand anyway. Just that having access to the tax credit deal is icing on the cake and would likely see a pricing premium with US automakers. Just makes it useful information for valuation purposes.
